1. Who we are
Fineline is run by Muhammad Gulraize Bilal Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 15584684, registered office 8 Beechfield Street, Manchester, M8 0SG, United Kingdom. We decide how your information is used, which makes us its controller under UK data protection law.
Questions, or anything you want us to do with your data: [email protected].
2. What we keep
- Your account: your name (it goes on your letters), your email address and your password, stored only as a scrambled hash we cannot reverse.
- Your fines: who sent each one, the reference, the vehicle registration, the place, the dates and the amounts.
- Your files: photos or PDFs of your letters, and any evidence you add. Evidence can include bank statement lines or receipts, so cover anything you don’t need to show before you upload it.
- Your appeals: your answers about what happened and the letters you write here.
- Technical: one sign-in cookie, and server logs (including IP addresses) that help us keep the service running and secure.
3. Why we use it
- To run Fineline for you: read your letters, track your dates, write your appeals and remind you. The legal basis is our contract with you.
- To email you reminders before deadlines. You can turn these off in Account at any time.
- To keep the service secure and stop abuse, such as repeated wrong passwords. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a safe service.
We never use your fines or files to advertise to you, and we never sell them.
4. Who handles it for us
- Hetzner Online hosts our servers and database, in Helsinki, Finland.
- Cloudflare sits in front of the website to keep it fast and protected. Pages and uploads pass through it on the way to us.
- Zoho ZeptoMail sends our reminder emails, from its EU data centre.
- OpenRouter and Google read the letters you scan, using Google’s Gemini model through OpenRouter. Only the letter you upload is sent, to read its details; the result comes straight back to us.
Some of these companies may handle data outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards the UK recognises, such as adequacy decisions or standard contract clauses.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your fines and files until you delete them. Deleting a fine removes it and its files. Deleting your account, in Account, removes your account and everything in it straight away. Backup copies of the database are kept for a limited time and are then overwritten.
6. Cookies
We set one cookie, fl_session, which keeps you signed in for up to 60 days. It is essential for the service to work, so we don’t ask for consent. We use no analytics or advertising cookies.
7. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop or limit how we use it. You can edit and delete most things yourself in the app; for anything else, email [email protected] and we reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
8. Changes
If we change this notice in a way that matters, we will tell you by email or in the app before the change applies.
